3 is a magic number

Happy Birthday to my little girl! You’re finally 3!

In Japan there is a saying “Mitsugo no tamashi hyaku mademo”, which literally translates into “The soul of a 3-year-old lasts until a 100″. It means that the foundation of personality is formed by the age of three. Three is a magic number.

The past 3 years felt long and short. It’s been amazing 3 years. Even during the tough time being a parent, I could always stay positive because of you and of course your sister as well. You have always warmed my heart with your sweet smile (even if it was a cunning one). You certainly know how to charm yourself. I wish I had that skill (can you teach me how to do it?). Your daddy and I love you so much that you have no idea! I have so much more to tell you, but I’d better cut it short before it turns cheesy.

We celebrated our second child’s birthday today, the 21st, by ourselves. We found out that she had ‘hand, foot and mouth’ on Friday (I think she has a light case), which was the day before yesterday, and her doctor told us that she should not go around other kids until she’s recovered. I should be happy that I didn’t plan a birthday party for my girls this year. Instead of spending a lot of money on a birthday party/parties and get stressed out about planning, not to mention that I’m still learning about the new city we moved to this past summer, I proposed that we would spend it for going away and having a family time. Therefore, that’s what we’re doing. It was rather a quiet celebration, but we had a great time. We ate out for dinner though. We enjoyed the celebratory outing. How was your weekend? I hope you had a great one!

    Happy Birthday!!

    I can’t believe she’s turned three!
She was a baby girl when I saw her in Tokyo.

    Your two daughter are beautiful,
and I’m sure it’s because you’ve been a great mom all these years!

So I’d like to say “Happy birthday” to your daughter,
    and “otsukare-sama!” to you.

Happy birthday to your darling daughter!
I love the Japanese phrase and I totally agree, first three years are very important. What a yummy cake with fresh strawberries! It’s all about creating memories which I think you and your husband are doing a great job at it.

I like the photo at the restaurant, the yellow circles in the back and a tree branch on the left?

Thank you for such sweet words! I thought those yellow circles looked neat, too. I think there is a tree branch as well.

Little Y! I remember her in your belly. I remember visiting you and her in the hospital. I can still hear her calling after Eli and Henry. She is one precious bundle and we have been lucky to know her for a spell.

I vividly remember that day you came to visit and took beautiful pictures of her! She still remembers you all well!

Already 3? Time flies. Your second girl has grown so much, and your first one, too. I still remember when we first met, your first daughter was only 2 and a half. I remember Kai was so proud to take her to Kumon one day telling his teacher how she is only 2 and a half but she can talk so well. Happy birthday! I hope your second girl will be feeling better soon.
