Friday Finds ☆ Restaurant Recommendations in Bangkok, Thailand Part 1

February 10, 2011

We were in Bangkok only for 5 full days, so it wasn’t enough for us to know many places, but those are the places we went. There are many other places my friends recommended and I wanted to try, but we simply didn’t have enough time to explore them all. I hope the restaurant information I share in this post will be of any help for the future travelers to Bangkok.

11 Gallery

11 Gallery is a wonderful place to experience reasonably priced Thai food and atmosphere. I loved 11 Gallery especially for its ambiance. 11 Gallery was a perfect restaurant to spend our last evening of our trip in Bangkok. The location is in the heart of touristy area with hustle and bustle, but when you are at 11 Gallery, it feels like you are in an oasis and you forget that you’re in a busy and lively city of Thailand. Fortunately for us, 11 Gallery was located on the same street as President Palace Hotel on Sukhumvit 11, where we spent the last two days of our stay. I said fortunately because I found 11 Gallery by accident when passing by the restaurant on our way to our hotel and on the last night my husband was too tired to go far from our hotel for dinner and President Palace Hotel and 11 Gallery being close from each other made it possible for us to have dinner there. I highly recommend this restaurant to any visitors to Bangkok.

11 Gallery (11 แกลเลอรี่)
1 1/30 Sukhumvit Road Soi 11, Wattana
Bangkok 10110, Thailand
Tel: 02-6512672

Directions from Nana Sky Train (BTS) Station
There are two exits (one is closer to Sukhumvit 11), so if you could find an exit facing Asoke direction (I saw a coffee vendor when I was there), get out from this exit and take the stairs on the left to go down. The first on your left is Sukhumvit Street 11. On the google map, this road is listed as “Soi Chai Yot” and the road name changes to Sukhumvit 11. You walk about 100 meters and you’ll see the sign Suk… 11. The restaurant looks like an old wooden house on your left and there is SevenEleven near 11 Gallery.

Bella Napoli

Do you like Italian food? It’s one of my favorite and now Bella Napoli is the place I think of when I want to have good pizza. I have never been to Italy, but I imagine that this is the closest I’ve gotten to Italy without going there. The food was marvelous, the service was excellent, the prices were right and the ambiance was quaint and lovely. If you are tired of some Asian food in Bangkok, you should definitely check out Bella Napoli. I guarantee you that you will be satisfied with their pizzas!! We tried their Pasta Napolitan (thought it’s their specialty) and it came with a thin cover made of pizza dough. Don’t forget to try their home-made ice cream. It’ll make ‘you’ melt!

I found out about Pizzeria Bella Napoli on Sawasdee, Thai Air Magaine. It was actually the best airplane magazine I’ve read. It has gorgeous photos and full of great information. I enjoyed it very much and I even took it home. Anyways, I saw an article written about Cala la Pasta and listed Bella Napoli as Cala la Pasta’s sister restaurant/rival. I was in the mood for pizzas, so I checked the address for Bella Napoli online and asked the hotel staff for a taxi to go to Bella Napoli. Somehow we got there.

I have a very difficult time locating Bella Napoli’s accurate address. I wish I picked up their business card. Timeout Bangkok website seems to have a good address with a map. Please click here for its location.

Indian Host

If you know us, we love Indian Food. If you do, Indian Host is a great place for you and your family during your visit in Bangkok. My friend, Catherine, who used to live in Bangkok with her family introduced us to this place. Thanks, Catherine! I’m so glad she did because otherwise, I would have not known about this place! I also liked Indian Host’s decor, especially its huge glass windows which makes the restaurant very romantic as well as spacious. We enjoyed all the food we ordered and naan was delightful and we were fighting over one order of refreshing lassi. I know, order more, right? Maybe next time.

Home Kitchen

My friend, Sachi, who currenly lives in Bangkok told me about Home Kitchen. She said Home Kitchen is her and her husband’s favorite restaurant in the city. It looks like a restaurant where local people go and some expats in Thailand who know about Home Kitchen also go. You can get authentic Thai seafood at Home Kitchen with great local price. I could totally picture Anthony Bourdain (I love his show!) sitting at one of their tables trying out some dishes of Home Kitchen. It’s that type of place. Needless to say we loved their food. I especially liked their Thai Crystal Noodle Salad.

There are a couple of Home Kitchen restaurants in the neighborhood. The one we went and were recommended has a small fish tanks facing the street and has a big open kitchen where you can see the activities there. Thare are about 6 or 7 tables outside and there are some indoor as well.

Home Kitchen
Thanon Lang Suan Rd. and Lang Suan Soi 6.
The nearest Sky Train (BTS) Station is Chit Lom Station. If you walk, it might take about 10 minutes to get there. You walk south on Lang Suan Street facing your back to the station and the restaurant will be on your right.

I have more, but I will have to have another post about the restaurants in Thailand! It takes me too long to find addresses. Bangkok is the hardest place to find the accurate address information… Sigh.

your lil wild thing is so cute. I love father daughter photos.

The Indian food looks yummy and authentic.

I am tempted by the photos of the Thai crystal noodles as well. Are these the same as glass noodles?
