Wednesday Wall2Wall ☆ New Arc Lamp For Our Living Room

April 19, 2011

It started like this

Then it looked like this

Lastly, our current living room looks like this with our new arc lamp.

Holly cow, my daughter is crushing the cushion of the sofa!! You’re the one who deforms the sofa!
気がついたら、娘がソファーのクッションを潰している!!ソファーの形がおかしくなっていると思ったら、犯人は君か!!

BEFORE

AFTER

I was finally able to purchase the chrome arc lamp in Jakarta, Indonesia, which I’ve longed to buy for a while. My friend, The Diplomatic Wife, whom I met in the blog sphere and who also lives in Jakarta told me that she found an arc lamp at ACE Hardware in Gandaria City Mall, so I did go there several days after I learned about it. There were arc lamps in two sizes. The one I purchased is a smaller size and the price was IDR 1,200,000 ($130). Not bad, right? I wanted to see how heavy the stone base for the bigger size arc lamp was, so I tried to lift it and I could not even move it a bit. Crazy!

By the way, I purchased this lamp when my husband was away for business. I tend to make a big purchase when he’s not home for work. Is it a coincidence or intentional…? I don’t even know the answer myself.

Since we have a weight limit for our shipment and do not get to move with all of our own furniture, I find that lamps play a significant role by creating ambiance and adding a character to the interior of our house. I am very pleased with the new look of our living room with the new addition to it, an arc lamp.

Your living room is beautiful!! I love the Arc Lamp but I don’t think our place could afford the space for it now.

Oh, I spy with my little eye, these initials ‘P & K’ decor items that you have on the shelf. What are they and where can I get them? Only in Jakarta?

    • April 20, 2011 11:17 am

Thanks, Lady J!! It is a huge lamp… Those P & K are from my sister-in-law and she got them in the States. They actually came with a hook and they are supposed to be a towel hook in the bathroom. Since we can’t make holes in our bathroom walls, I use them without the hooks as a decor on book shelves. Thanks for noticing them!!!

You know I’ve been seeing letters used as decor a lot in many US design blogs these days. I wish they sold some here in Jakarta too. I asked Danni my furniture maker and he said he can make but I’m sure it’s not as cheap as the states wherein they probably have machines that mass produce it. While Danni has to do it by hand. Hope to find some someday too! =)

If Danni can make one, that’ll be cool! Yeah, the prices…. Since you buy so much from him, you deserve to receive a big discount!

Beautiful! You have a real eye for design and use of space. The trees give a sense of the outdoors and open the space up in an organic way. I love it!

You think so? Thanks!! I love the “organic” way!

Wow, your place is beautiful! What a difference you made from how it was when you found it!

Thanks, Clayton! Now I feel very much home at our place. :)

Love your living room Kaho, my new home has a similar feel to yours, earth colours and a lot of wooden furniture :) We are also planning to put our initials which were left over from our wedding decor, at our bookshelf too!

Cool!! Thank you for your sweet words, Z!!!

I like it!! I think you got a good price – my friend just bought a vintage lamp JUST like that with a stone base from a designer…for 1500. eeep!

Excellent Kaho! I am a tiny bit jealous as I also would like this arc lamp… my living room looks awful at the moment, I love how you changed yours and that you show us here the different stages .

You should come to Jakarta then! Well, the problem here is that they are not always available at ACE Hardware where I got mine. There are some lamp shops that I haven’t been yet where I heard you can purchase an arc lamp. Thanks for the comment and compliment!!

oh i love it! i always want to do the wall print/mural like that but never got around to actually do it.

You should! Especially if you’re going to stay in your current place for a while. It was fun! I’m bummed that when I move next time I have to leave it with the house. Boo.

Lovely Thoughts
