Birthdays, Siem Reap, Running Race, etc
It’s been a couple of weeks since I touched my blog. I’ve been busy in the past month on top of being pregnant and feeling exhausted by the time I put the girls to bed. Everyday is a survival considering I’m still going through queasiness with pregnancy in addition to feeling heavy carrying my daily growing belly. I am at the 26th week of gestation from this Tuesday, December 7, 2011. Everything seems to be going well.
Both of my girls had birthdays at the end of November after my husband was gone twice in the past a month and a half two weeks at a time. Their birthdays are 2 days apart. I made cupcakes for both schools and had birthday celebrations with their classmates. We had Thanksgiving right after that.
After Thanksgiving was my girl’s trip with my girl friends from Jakarta to run a race in Siem Reap, Cambodia. My very first girl’s trip since I got married over 12 years ago. A friend of ours who used to live in Jakarta moved away this past summer and now lives in Phnom Penh, so running a race in Siem Reap seemed like a good reason to have a reunion there. I had the most incredible and memorable trip in my life. This was also my very first time I left the girls with my husband and traveled without them for pleasure. I was nervous and emotional about leaving my family partly because I was (and still am) pregnant. I was irrationally worried about going on this trip and leaving my kids behind, but in the end, I was very glad that I did make this trip. I enjoyed it even though I did feel guilty and miss the girls and my husband.
If you ever consider running and participating in a race, but you are not a runner like me, you might as well combine a trip to some place you’ve always wanted to go, somewhere exotic. This was my first experience with an international race and I didn’t know how exciting it would be. I ran a 3K Family Run. 3K is nothing for runners, but for someone like me who is not a runner and doing it in a developing country where a good medical care is not readily available in case something happened at the 25th week of pregnancy, it was long enough. Plus I injured my knee due to my gaining weight with pregnancy and training to run. After completing the race though, I wished I tried 10K instead. 3K was too short. There were a ton of people walking the 10K. I thought I could have done that!
Part of the reason why I dropped out of the blogging sphere was training to run for the Siem Reap Half Marathon. For a while, I kept a tiny hope to run a 10K at 25th week of my pregnancy. I would get up at 5:00 am to run in the morning (only ran 2-3K), so I had to go to bed early by 10:30 when I used to write my posts. During the day I would fall asleep like narcolepsy. I felt useless.
Now the race is behind me and I’m back in Jakarta. I have so many photos that I would love to share from the past who knows how many months, but it feels like I don’t have enough time. Not enough time to do anything I need to do. I have many undone jobs I’ve accumulated in the past couple of months that are waiting to be completed. I’m having belated birthday celebrations this Friday (today!) and Saturday of this week for my two girls whose birthdays were last month. There are several holiday events coming up and baking needs to be done. I have many emails I have to reply. If you have written me and have not heard from me, please forgive me and accept my apology! It is not intentional. Do feel free to nudge me reminding me that you have written a message if you don’t hear from me. My pregnant brain needs it. Don’t ask me any questions that require memory because I seem to get everything wrong these days. I still remember my home and cell phone numbers though.
I have many posts I need to update here. I’ll work on it. I promise.
